Stay Hydrated

Hey Ryan,

Since this summer will be your first, I want to make sure you are prepared. There are a few things to take into consideration, perhaps the most important of which is staying hydrated.

Your body consists of mostly water. Water is nothing more than two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom. That’s right, you are made up of, at least in part, one element that is combustible in nature, and another you breathe in to stay alive.

But enough of that. The point is, you always need to make sure you are sufficiently hydrated. This is particularly critical in the summer months. The hotter it is, the more quickly water evaporates. If you do not replace the water, it can cause many issues.

Note that this advice holds true whether you are 5 months, 5 years, or 500 years old. Right now, Mommy and I give you water in every bottle you drink. As you get older, you will be increasingly responsible for staying hydrated.

For now, though, we’ve got it taken care of. You can thank us later.

Words can not describe

Hey Ryan,

Shortly after Mommy and I brought you home from the hospital, Mommy caught you and I napping.  She captured the following picture:

At first glance, this picture can seem pretty regular.  One picture among many; a grainy photo of a father and his son.  Luckily, I do not glance at this photo.

Words can not describe how much this photo means to me.  Having you in my arms may be the greatest joy I have ever felt.  We will get few moments like this over the next few months, and I am excited that this moment was captured.

Thanks for letting me hold you.

Hey Ryan,
You are watching your “videos” in this picture, while simultaneously showing off your sitting up skills.  Baby Einstein absolutely knows how to keep an infant entertained for 26 minutes. They are masters at it.

Hey Ryan,

A few months ago (that is really weird to write) you and I were in the kitchen, dancing to this song.  You seemed to enjoy it, so I figured I’d share it with you.  I am hoping I get a few more opportunities to dance with you over the years.  I promise not to (intentionally) embarrass you.

Hey Ryan,

Your Mothers Day card for Mommy is very cute. While I am not sure I condone the use of scissors, glue, and glitter by a 4 month old, I’ll let it slide. Your craftsmanship is impressive.
